research
I have been a bioinformatics research scientist in the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Department at UCL since October 1996. Currently I'm working on the PFDB (protein family database) as a member of Christine Orengo's CATH group. Before that I worked on a project developing neural network-based methods for predicting protein structure, including BTPRED (the beta-turn predictor).
My main research interests are: biological databases; the use of intelligent systems - in general, and artificial neural networks in particular - to solve bioinformatic tasks; and protein structure prediction. Details of my research work, both past and present, can be found on my research page.
teaching
I teach the biological databases and biocomputing II (perl programming) modules on the MSc Bioinformatics course at Birkbeck. Details of these and my other teaching commitments can be found on my teaching page.
